Q. What is Mason?
A. Mason is a private, invite only game for characters all
Q. What kind of characters will Mason accept?
A. Mason will accept characters from all media, regardless of medium. OCs are not accepted at the moment, but this may change as the time goes on.
Q. What about the setting?
A. Mason is set in the small gated community of Mason's Passage. Despite it being a "small" community, characters will find that anything that can be found in the suburbs of America (ie, Walmarts, Malls, Fastfood chains) can be found in Mason as well. Characters live in houses like this in units of 3, consisting of two parents and a child. For more detailed setting help, consult the Locations post.
Q. Can a character have homosexual/genderqueer parents?
A. Absolutely. Mason does not believe one's sex or gender affects a child's upbringing.
Q. How does the IC/OOC day cycle work?
A. One IC day = One OOC day. Backlogging is available up to two weeks and forward logging is not available for obvious reasons.
Q. How does AC work?
A. AC, or "Activity Checks" are referred to as Rent. ICly, towards the fifteenth of each month, NPCS will increasingly mention paying "Rent" to the landlord. Characters can make their deposit at the bank. OOCly, a post will go up on the OOC community on the 14th of each month. Players simply need to state which characters they are playing and if they would like to continue playing in Mason within the week and you will have passed AC. Occasionally, it may require a few posts to count as a pass, but generally AC will be short and simple, and will not be ridiculously hard.
Application Related
Q. What is the character limit?
A. The character limit is currently 2, but it will change once the game picks up off the ground!
Q. Can I apply for a character who is not human?
A. Although human or humanoid characters are preferred, if your character is primarily an animal, you can also apply for them. They will be put into the pet slot instead of a house slot instead of a regular resident, however.
Q. If I apply for a character who is not human, can I make them a human?
A. Sure! Feel free to do so if you want to play characters like Kyuubey or My Little Pony! Just be aware that this will only work for characters with a lot of canon background, so generic Pokemon or monsters won't work as they will be basically OCs. Your neighbours will not notice any difference, so no worries about passing off as human.
Q. Can I apply for a character who shares a body with another character?
A. If you intend to apply for these characters, they must be treated as one individual character. For example, Touko Fukawa and Genocider Syo must be both applied under Touko. The applicant must include an additional section about Syo. If you would like to discuss this with a Moderator, please let us know via Mod Contact, PM, or Twitter and we'll be happy to hash it out with you.
Q. Similar to above, can I apply for canon doubles of other characters?
A. No, you cannot. If the characters are closely regarded as similar contextually as each other (ie. Silver from the Pokemon games and Silver from the Pokemon Manga), we will only allow one version of them. This rule does not apply for the protagonists of a series considered female/male equivalents (ie. Persona 3), as they are regarded as separate characters in the fandom. If you are confused, feel free to contact us about whether or not your character would be acceptable.
Q. How much information must I have about a character in order to apply for them?
A. If they have a history post somewhere or you can write one up, and you can write at least 100 words about their personality, you may reserve and apply for them.
Mason Related
Q. Is Mason an AU game?
A. Yes! Characters will have remembered themselves as living in Mason's Passage for as long as they've lived with no memories of their past experiences or their powers.
Q. Will that affect their personalities?
A. To some extent. It's up to you to decide how much it will affect them. Certain characters will obviously be more affected, but certain characters probably won't be changed at all. Either way, the character shouldn't lose what makes them that character, even though it may be dulled down a bit due to how boring their life is in comparison to their canon. You are welcome to create fake "equivalents" to events that happened in canon.
Q. What about their relationships?
A. This is up to you. You may choose to start your character without any pre-existing relationships, or you may take the above route and create fake memories and preserve pre-existing relationships.
Q. What about characters who are not from 2010s America? Will they be familiar with technology?
A. You may use your judgement for this. Whether they are technologically challenged or not, at least they are familiar being around technology like laptops or cellphones because of their prevalence.
Q. Will powers be restricted?
A. Characters upon arrival will find their superhuman powers completely inaccessible. Human skills and abilities such as martial arts or marksmanship skills will be retained so long as they are not aided by supernatural forces. If a human cannot do it, your character cannot.
Q. What about possessions?
A. All possessions are regarded as family heirlooms and do not have their powers in them.
Q. Do characters come back from death in Mason?
A. It will take characters a week to return to life. Upon returning from death, characters will find themselves in front of the gate. They will have all their injuries healed. There is otherwise no penalty. NPCs will act as if the character has never died.
Q. Do we have to be realistic about injuries?
A. Not necessarily. Broken arms and legs will heal within two IC weeks, life threatening injuries will heal around three, although it may take up to a month week for characters to feel completely themselves. Any other major injuries will fall between this range. Smaller injuries will be healed within the week.
Q. How do the characters in this game speak to each other? How does language work?
A. The language in Mason is an altered form of English. All communication is immediately translated into English. Characters who speak other existing languages (French, Chinese, German, etc) may write in those languages if they purposely force themselves to speak that language.
Q. Does the outside world exist?
A. Yes. Although no one has set foot outside the community in forever. Characters can still learn the languages of many civilizations (Greek, Latin, etc.) and partake in such cultural celebrations (some NPCs are even from other countries). There is regular media exposure to shows filmed and set in other countries, and foreign language TV programs can be found with a bit of effort.
Q. Why don't characters want to leave the community?
A. A fear of the outside, maybe? After all, when you've lived your entire life in a community, you'd be reluctant to step out too. That doesn't mean that characters can't talk about leaving, they just won't do it, like something in their entire being rejects it. It's an extremely unpleasant feeling. If characters persist in attempting to leave, they will experience nausea, intense headaches and vomiting. If they continue despite this, they will be shot to death.

A. A network community is a community for the type of posting regarded as "action spam" or "comment spam."
Q. The network at certain games take different forms, what is the form of the network at Mason?
A. The network for Mason's Passage is the main community itself (masonspassage ) and is Mason's equivalent of a social media network for Mason residents. Characters may post video, text, or audio of themselves and comment on other character's post. Characters who are more familiar with technology may "filter" their posts to certain residents. These posts may eventually evolve into actionspam once the communication is over.
